A Dangerous Commitment

Christianity gives much to its adherents, but it is always perverted when it is presented as a success story. The gospel may do a great many things for us, but is deeply misunderstood if it is interpreted merely as a psychological instrument for our help. It is, instead, a relationship which begins with a dangerous and uncalculating commitment.

Christianity is a sucess story when the deepest purpose of a human being is fulfilled through it, that is, to be reconciled with God and to live a life of worship and joy not matter what the circumstances.
A friend of mine in a recent sermon shared the three states of being a christian, to paraphrase - just curious, let’s try it on for awhile, and in over your head. I’ve been in over my head for a few years now. It’s turned my life inside out and upside down. As one of my Doctor’s tells me, my faith isn’t an and-also part of my life, it is the foundation of my life.
Life’s changed a lot, and is not always easy. Actually, it is more challenging.
Each of us is born with faith (Romans 12:3), which fact is a challenge from God in and of itself. What will we do with faith? Faith rains down on us like water and most of us either let it drip away or we shake it off like dogs, rather than grabbing so much as a cup or even sticking out our tongues to gather it.
Eventually thirst overtakes us and while many search for anything else to slake the thirst, the chosen search for faith in the one and only God. When we discover the comfort of faith, the next great challenge overtakes us–the challenge to protect the faith we’ve picked up and taken in. Life and Satan will throw a plethora of custom-made obstacles at us in the hopes that we’ll trip and drop our faith in the process.
Be on guard, but not anxious (Philippians 4:6). Trust God. He is above every challenge and your victory is in Him.
