There is only one way to wisdom: awe. Forfeit your sense of awe, let your conceit diminish your ability to revere, and the universe becomes a marketplace for you. The loss of awe is the great block to insight.... The greatest insights happen to us in moments of awe.
How very true and profound are these remarks! In all of our clamoring, we seek everything EXCEPT wisdom and AWE is beoming an unknown. Would that I could fan that little flame in my being so that daily grandeurs are not overlooked!
Thanks for this posting.
A good commentary on: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom"Prov. 1:7
I believe that the increased use of the word "awesome" for much that is not so, is inversely proportional to the number of truly awesome experiences that we have. When we refuse to or are unable to be truly awed, we look for anything we can find to fill the void.
May each of us really and truly be awed by something today.
In the midst of a time in America's society where the middle class is disappearing, where people are nose deep in the dung that has been produced by greed, immediate gratification v.s. delayed gratification, etc., it's admittedly hard to leave room amongst utilizing what appear to be reasoned out solutions to look above and beyond for moments of AWE.
But at the same moment, AWE is what is going to save us from the hole filled with dung that we are into upon to our noses.
We need, I need, those moments of AWE, to keep us, me, striving to get out of the hole(s) I've allowed myself to get into by allowing myself to depend upon just my own level of reasoning.

My feelings mirror those of Rabbi Heschel. However for the longest time I struggled trying to define what awe really is. Then I read somewhere, don't remember who actually said it, that awe was a sense of grateful wonder and that summed it up for me.
I totally agree God is awesome!
I believe that we all come into this Natural World with this "Innate Wisdom of AWE and WONDER"! It is inbred in us as "Chilren of God", a Lifeline from our Beloved FATHER WHO seems to say: "See MY Child, I made this all for You because I LOVE You and DESIRE to share MY LIFE with You. It is NOT your lasting Home but I placed You there so that You may come to KNOW ME and LOVE ME too as I LOVE YOU! Then after Your earthly sojourn, you should DESIRE to come HOME to ME as MUCH as I DESIRE having You HOME"!
Mother Teresa once said that "We are Loosing Our Children"! In her "great insight" she understood her 'great Humility' as a "Child of God" and stated with a Prophetic Voice that the "world's conceit" is kidnapping Our Children, robbing them of Their 'True Inheritance' as "Children of GOD" - replacing "The Way to Wisdom" with a "worldly marketplace"!
GOD Save and BLESS the Children "...for such is the Kingdom of Heaven and ...their Angels behold the FACE OF GOD"!!!
