We teach children how to measure, how to weigh. We fail to teach them how to revere, how to sense wonder and awe. The sense of the sublime, the sign of the inward greatness of the human soul and something which is potentially given to all, is now a rare gift.
My housemate and I are hosting traveling missionaries for a few weeks. The missionaries travel around the world, giving performances that speak to morals, ethics, and when allowed, the Lord specifically. It all depends on what venue they are serving in.
We were invited to see some of the plays being performed last night. "These plays were filled with the sense of the sublime, the sign of the inward greatness of the human soul and something which is potentially given to all."
It is a shame that the United States has chosen to remove from the schools music, art, etc, appreciation and classes in performing the skills. The students miss out on a lot of life. As our society is learning, life is not just based on reading, writing, and arithmetic.
