My only anxiety is what I can do...could I not be of use and good for something?... The world only concerns me in so far as I feel a certain debt and duty towards it and out of gratitude want to leave some souvenir in the shape of drawings or pictures...to express sincere human feeling.
Bless his heart. This brings to my mind his wrenching painting of the worker's boots. Annie Dillard shares a quote from one of his journals: "I am trying to get at something heartbroken here." At the distance of many years, he evokes in me through his art deep respect for his suffering love.
Vincent's paintings speak volumes and touch me deeply as well, with their torrid Passion! A "debt of his gratitude" hangs on my wall as a testament to his hope that he was/is "of use and good for something" - living out his Life in "debt to the world". So with sentiments of "sincere human feeling" I return the "debt of Gratitude" - with Prayers for his Soul - and in Thanksgiving to God for Vincent's self-donation of his "GIFT/debt to the World"! I Pray that he at last found The PEACE and Love of our Merciful GOD, a LOVE he so longed for, that seemed to elude him during his earthly sojourn!
