The individual who is simple, who accepts themselves as they are, makes only a minimum demand on others in their relations with them. Their simplicity not only endows their own personality with unique beauty; it is also an act of love. This is an example of the truth that whatever sanctifies our own soul does, at the same time, beneft everyone who comes into our life.
This is a beautiful trueism. My father lives and breathe this in his own rough and tender way. I am grateful for the hope this quote holds, that tending my own soul, which results in a life change for someone else,is not a death-blow to someone else.
In this quote, I recognize my weakness: striving to appear as someone greater than I am. Today, I awoke with the familiar stress of work tasks on my mind. In particular, I’m worried about a meeting that I am chairing tonight, and the tasks and planns that need to be accomplished.
This quote reminds me that my approach should not be to impress this group or even to lead them (in the usual sense) but to serve them. In order to accept the members of the group, I need to accept myself and my own limitations.
"serve them" in your response is key.
This is lovely and simple even in it's expression of the value of simplicity. I couldn't agree more. It kind of helps me because I often feel maybe I am not doing "enough" or my career isn't flashy or huge. Thanks.
I agree wholeheartedly with this reflection of Being simple. I think that most of us come to realize this in the later years of life, those who learn it young, are greatly blessed and others are blessed by them.
Part of this being simple is becoming other centered rather than self centered. I have also noticed that one prayers for others, their own ailments seem to lessen.
It's my first time on this site. I think I will visit more often.
