Call: Believing that "reconciliation is the heart of the Gospel" (John Perkins), we are called to be a multicultural, open and affirming community of reconciliation, centered in Christ, bathed in prayer, and grounded in grace. Knowing ourselves to be broken and vulnerable, we seek to embody Jesus' love through solidarity with other vulnerable people, regardless of age, race, language, or sexual orientation. Decisions are made by consensus of the members, and leadership is shared. Our pastors are elected, and serve without pay. Approximately 90% of our budget goes directly to ministries that serve the poor, locally and abroad.
Membership: Everyone who attends worship regularly is a community member. A person who wants to explore formal membership will complete five classes, intern in a mission group, practice spiritual disciplines (daily prayer, Bible study, tithing, yearly silent retreat), struggle with accountability and community issues, and write a spiritual autobiography. This process is designed to bring us to the place where we may "unreservedly and with abandon commit our lives and destinies to Christ." Becoming a member (normally a two-year process) prepares one for Christian ministry and culminates in ordination. Members recommit annually, using the original Church of the Saviour commitment.
School of Christian Living: Two or three 6-8 week classes are held per year, including the core classes of Old Testament, New Testament, Christian Ethics, Christian Growth, and Doctrine.
Worship: Mondays at 6 p.m. at the Festival Center, 1640 Columbia Rd. NW, Washington, DC
